I was hoping that somehow, somewhere, another Sigma Derby machine would pop up anywhere in Las Vegas. It seems that hope was not enough and the MGM is the home of the last remaining Sigma Derby in Las Vegas.
I am not sure if the MGM is motivated to keep the last Sigma Derby operating. Some might have the opinion that having the last Sigma Derby is reason enough to keep it operational. Offer a game not found anywhere else in town. My argument comes from the darker side. Watching every other casino pull Sigma Derby out. Imperial Palace, Riveria, Bally’s, Luxor and the camel version, Caesars and the chariot version, Excaliber and the knights version. All of them pulled the game from the casino floor. Sigma Derby must not have been making the dollars per sqaure foot that other games earn. And the upkeep on those machines must have been costly as it seemed to me every machine had a players position or three out of service. Why would MGM want to keep this game? If they pull it no other casino would have a Sigma Derby advantage over the MGM
But here is my arguement against the MGM pulling the Sigma Derby. Every trip I will set aside some time to play this fun little game. I make a special trip to MGM if I am not staying there. I do more than play Sigma Derby. I’ll put in a few hours at their poker room since I am already there. I usually have a meal and I stop in for a few drinks at the circle bar right there near the poker room. I’ll spend hours in MGM all because of the Sigma Derby game. Lots of casinos have poker and a circle bar but only the MGM has Sigma Derby and that is why the MGM must be the keeper of all things Sigma Derby.

Sadly, I can’t see it lasting at the MGM. When I bought in for the 2008 event the change counter gave me 3 rolls of quarters. However, at the end, there was noone that even accepted coin at the MGM as the rest of the place has gone ticket in ticket out. I wandered around vegas for 3 days trying to get rid of quarters!

I pumped $100 into that thing within the last hour of my life today. Hopefully this helps keep it around
I have always loved these things and I too am sad that they are slowly vanishing from the strip scene.

Howdy.
Where the hell in the MGM is the derby located?
Heading out there in a few weeks.
Thanks for any help…

If you enter MGM off the strip, it’s located about in the center of the floor area just past the Lion Habitat on the left

Was in Vegas Dec ‘08, and made two trips to MGM to play the Sigma Derby. Just went to the cashier and they gave us quarters and also cashed out the quarters at the end of play. There were some dye hard players, and many who came by for a bit, played and then moved on. We tipped the bar maids and got good service for a quarter game. I think MGM should promote it as the last one in Vegas. Our trips to MGM were specifically to play the Derby, and we also spent time in shops, restuarants, sports wagering, etc. Without the Derby we would not have stopped by MGM on this trip. —And they’re off!—

I love this game so much, and I figure it’s my duty to tell whomever I can that there is one about 5 miles from where I live…in Royal River Casino in Flandreau, South Dakota. I play it every time I am there.

Yesterday, I was in MGM and played the Derby. That’s such a cute game and definitely I will return for it. A couple of years ago in Windsor Casino, I played a horse racing game called Derby Mark VI (or IV,sth.) and that was much higher version of sigma derby of MGM has. Hope someday, any casino in LV can have one. Anyway, the Derby machine in MGM rocks. Keep going, MGM.
